Custom Roto Mold

Rotational molding, or roto molding, is a process commonly used to create custom parts that are made from hollow plastic. Though roto molding was first developed in the 1940s, it did not achieve immediate popularity because only a few plastics could be used in the process. More recently, however, improvements to the roto molding process and the development of plastic powders have increased the use of roto molding.

The process begins by creating a custom roto mold. A predetermined amount of resin or plastic powder is then loaded into the custom roto mold. By rotating the mold on two axes while at a high temperature, you get your custom shape.

When it was first developed, roto molding also took considerably longer than other manufacturing processes like injection molding. Using a custom roto mold, however, can significantly reduce your manufacturing costs. Current research into roto molding is exploring ways that the length of the manufacturing process can be reduced--including pressurization that can speed it up significantly.

Depending on the shape of your custom mold, you may be able to take advantage of the cost savings associated with roto molding.
