Composite Manufacturer

A wide range of composites can be made to suit very particular purposes. Composite materials have been around for centuries, dating back to ancient civilizations that used mud bricks. These bricks were composed of mud, which was easily molded, and straw, which provided added strength.

Today, a manufacturer has many choices for the matrix (or binder) for the composite material. Thermosetting plastics harden under higher temperatures and are resistant to wear as well as exposure to many chemicals. Thermosoftening plastics, on the other hand, soften at higher temperatures and have some advantages in comparison to thermosetting plastics.

Your Composite Manufacturer May Use a Variety of Matrices

While a manufacturer can fabricate many composite materials--including fiberglass and carbon fiber reinforced plastics--using plastics and fibers, these are not the only matrices available to the manufacturer. Other substances, such as ceramics and carbon, are ideal depending on the circumstances in which the product will be used. For example, a manufacturer of gears may opt for a carbon matrix because of the high amount of friction and wear to which the gears will be exposed.
