Aerospace Composites

Composites are, quite simply, materials that are made up of two or more components and in which the underlying components remain distinct from each other. In the case of composites, however, the whole truly is more than the sum of its parts. While each material retains its physical properties, they serve to enhance each other in a unique way.

Plastic composites are popular for aerospace construction. These composites usually consist of either carbon or glass fibers in a plastic resin. While the fibers themselves are rigid and strong, they are extremely brittle. On the other hand, the plastic does not have the strength or rigidity of the fibers, but can compensate for the brittleness.

Lightweight Options for Aerospace Composites

Aerospace composites have been widely used for aircraft design. As they are lightweight, plastic composites are used in the construction of parts of the wings and landing gear. Aerospace composites can also be made with a ceramic matrix, which offers high heat resistance and has been used as a skin for space shuttles.

If you have had difficulty locating a manufacturer of aerospace composites to work with you on your design, we at Concept Sales Inc. can assist you. In addition to maintaining a large network of manufacturers, we help clients choose the right fabrication process and alter their designs if that is necessary to see them realized.
